We were not asked to be perfect. We were asked to give our best effort from the very beginning. A lot of hard work was put into our sports day preparations, we did our outmost and if it didn’t fit we improvised.
No matter how dark the times get the sun will rise again. Though it rained till the very last moment the sun shone brightly on our sports day, held on 28th September 2019. The buzz and the excitement rose as our chief guest Mr. Glen Croning and the guests of honour Mr. Jayachandran, Rev Sr. Nirmala Lucas and Rev Sr. Queen Mary Thomas stepped into the sports field accompanied by our school band and also were welcomed by our graceful dancers. The march past began with the resounding of the band led by the leaders of the school followed by the four houses; Truth, Loyalty, Charity and Honour. The torch was lit and the promising flames awakened in every athlete’s heart the spirit of sportsmanship, as we took the oath.
The events of the day started with the 400 meter junior girls. The students of class one stole the spotlight with the ‘doll dance’, themselves looking like little dolls. The ‘clappers’ of classes II and III got us tapping our feet to the rhythmic tap of their clappers which was followed by the display by classes IV and V with their colourful hoops. A standing ovation was given for the waves and for the beautiful coordination by the juniors. The 100 meter dash left us amazed.
The next on the programme was the Drummer’s Call which was a splendid performance by the school band. Every athlete was eager to run the relay for which they had worked very hard. Their hard work paid off in the end as the relays were flawless. One of the most awaited events of the day, the senior drill which was performed by the classes VI to XII who performed not to win a certain place but to enjoy each step and win the floor.
The final dance of the day was and our dancers saluted our country, dressed in tri-colour celebrating the spirit of patriotism. The prize distribution began with the distribution of laurels to the winners. The Individual Championship was bagged by: Karieshma for sub- junior division and Nelcy for the junior division of Truth house, Kavi Priya of Loyalty house for the inter division and Sharon Maria for the senior division. The divisional championship for the sub-junior girls and the junior girls was won by Truth House. The divisional championship for the inter girls went to Loyalty house and the senior girls to Honour house. The games shield was bagged by Charity House. At the end of the day Truth House emerged as winners followed by Loyalty. A special award was presented to all the growing talents in sports for raising the bar higher every time they succeeded. And a special congrats should be mentioned to all the record breakers for pushing beyond their limits and going the extra mile.
Even the most perfect days have to come to an end. And so did our sports day with the flag folding ceremony accompanied by the symphony of ‘Abide with Me’. We thank our Principal Rev Sr. Elizabeth Rani for giving us an opportunity to test our sporting skills; we thank our teachers for assisting us to make this day a memorable one. We also thank the domestic staff for all their help. A big thank you to our coach Mr. Emmanuel Clarke without whom the day would not have been a successful one. We thank God for being with us and for the wonderful weather. We thank each and every one behind the perfection of the day. It is worth a lot more than a million words.
