The Unseen Dangers of Social Media and Cyber Crime

On 9 July 2025, Nazareth Convent High School hosted an eye-opening orientation programme for Grades VIII to XII on the theme “Likes, Shares and Scams: The Unseen Dangers of Social Media and Cyber Crime.” Sister Fathima Sheela led the first session, exploring the impact of social media on our lives and warning against the digital whirlpool of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation. The second session, conducted by Inspector Praveena and Sub Inspectors Kalaivani and Ravi of the Nilgiris Cyber Crime Department, shed light on online threats such as fraud, cyberbullying, and hacking, stressing the importance of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and safe online habits. Students were urged to report incidents via the 1930 helpline or cybercrime.gov.in. The event left attendees with a powerful reminder: “Behind every click lies a choice—choose wisely.”
